The Drake Research Grant offers up to $3,000 to fund activities and materials necessary to support research undertaken by Drake University faculty on continuing appointment: supplies (including animals), student research assistance, and when central to the research process, travel associated with research or creative activity. In particular, the Program seeks to position faculty currently under-supported by sources outside Drake to more favorably compete for extramural funding and to encourage research projects conducted in collaboration with Drake students. This Program does not fund the purchase of computing equipment, reassignment from teaching, pedagogical or course development, or conference travel. Only under rare circumstances will non-computer-based equipment purchases be considered.
The Drake Research Grant is the only Provost’s-Office grant that funds original disciplinary research or creative activity.

Once the Dean has received all applications from her/his unit, Deans will append his/her commentary and ranking, and will forward the application to firstname.lastname@example.org by February, 19, 2018.
CRITERIA AND EVALUATION
The Drake Research Grant is awarded on a competitive basis. The following criteria will guide the comparative evaluation of proposals:
Proposed projects of demonstrable scholarly or creative merit at any stage of development will be considered for support. However, projects in their early or middle stages and those whose applicants intend to pursue extramural support on the basis of this award will be given priority over late-stage projects of otherwise equal merit and over proposals to be funded entirely through resources available at Drake. Also, projects that propose significant collaboration with student as researchers, practitioners, or co-creators will be prioritized over those that do not. Finally, proposals from applicants who have not received Research Grant funding in the past may be prioritized over proposals by those who have, all else being equal.
The overriding consideration is the demonstrated scholarly, practical or creative merit of the proposed project, according to the standards of the discipline in which it is conducted.

Awarded funds become available July 1, 2018 and must be used by May 31, 2019.
