Educational Value

A Drake University education provides high returns on your investment in both your personal and professional lives.

  • Educational quality — Drake is ranked as a “best value” in higher education by both U.S.News and World Report and Barron’s 300 Best Buys in College Education.
  • Student achievement — Drake scored in the top percentile for high quality and effective learning experiences by the National Study on Student Engagement, a survey in which students rate their academic experience.

Personalized Education

Drake’s faculty members work hard to involve themselves with students on a personal level — both in the classroom as teachers and out of the classroom as mentors.

  • Expert faculty, not teaching assistants, teach courses and provide personalized feedback and support.
  • Students choose from more than 70 programs of study; design a personal academic plan; combine majors or create their own major.
  • Drake’s student-to-faculty ratio of 14:1 offers a quality experience unmatched by large universities.
  • Professors will know their students’ names and become active partners in their success, both in and out of the classroom.

Affordable Results

The cost of a Drake education is competitive with public universities. Students who plan properly complete their degrees in four years and begin working in their chosen profession soon after graduation.

  • Approximately 98 percent of Drake students receive financial aid. Domestic students entering Drake direct from high school in fall 2008 averaged $21,130 in combined grants, scholarships, need-based loans, and need-based work study.
  • Drake students get real-world experience through professional internships that prepare them for lifelong success. Nearly 80 percent of Drake students graduate having had at least one internship.
  • Students acquire valuable leadership skills from area business, government, civic and community leaders — many of who are Drake alumni.
  • Nearly all Drake graduates (92 percent in 2008) find career employment or enter graduate school within six months after receiving their degrees.

Drake awards more than $65 million along with 5,000 scholarships and grants to students annually.
