When you apply for admission to Drake, you take the first step in maximizing your learning opportunities. While admission to Drake is selective, the admission committee considers the full record of each candidate for admission. Drake prefers students with varied talents and interests, so there is no single, inflexible set of admission standards applied to all candidates.
 

Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO)

Study abroad in more than 60 countries for as little as three weeks to as long as a year, perhaps add a business or government internship.

A U.S. student is defined as a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or other eligible non-citizen. All other students should select international.

A transfer student is defined as a student with any college/university coursework taken AFTER high school graduation.

Each completed application for admission is reviewed individually. Drake University considers the following criteria to be important in evaluating your qualifications for admission:
  • The quality of preparation for college-level work that you have achieved in high school.
  • Your potential to achieve academic success based on an evaluation of high school records
  • Satisfactory scores on the American College Test (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
  • Evidence of involvement and leadership in activities.
Important Dates
  • December 1 - postmark deadline for pre-pharmacy program and National Alumni Scholarship program.
  • March 1 - priority deadline for admission (non-pharmacy), scholarships, financial aid and housing. Applications received after this date will be considered on a space-available basis.

Beginning October 15, applicants to all programs of study except pre-pharmacy are notified of an admission decision within six weeks after all required materials have been received in the Office of Admission.

Admission to the pre-pharmacy program is offered only for the fall term.

 

Drake welcomes transfer students from two- and four-year institutions. Transfer applicants must be in good academic standing at the last institution attended and possess at least a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 (“C”) on a 4.0 scale. However, a 2.5 minimum cumulative GPA is recommended and admission to specific programs and majors may require a higher GPA.

  • December 1 - application deadline for PharmD program and spring term.

  • March 1 - priority deadline for admission (non-PharmD), scholarships, financial aid and housing. Applications received after this date will be considered on a space-available basis.

  • April 15 - application deadline for summer term. Applications received after this date will be considered on a space-available basis.
  • July 1 - final deadline for admission (non-PharmD) for fall term.

Admission to the PharmD program is only offered for the fall term.

With the exception of those for the PharmD program, applications are reviewed on a rolling-admission basis.

Applications for admission to undergraduate studies are submitted to the Drake University Office of Admission. The Common Application also is accepted. For purposes of admission, an international student is defined as a student who is, or will be, in the United States on a non-immigrant visa.
