 Remember me

Admission to the pre-pharmacy program is offered only for the fall term. Admission to the health sciences program is available in any term.

Applying for direct admission to the pre-pharmacy program differs from applying to all other undergraduate programs of study, including health sciences, in two ways. There is a strict application deadline, and the students will be selected from a pool of applicants rather than on a rolling-admission basis. Admission may be granted directly to the pre-pharmacy program or to the program you have designated as a second field of study. December 1, 2008, is the final deadline for direct admission to the pre-pharmacy program. The application and all required documents must be postmarked no later than December 1, 2008, and must reach the Office of Admission no later than December 10, 2008. Notification of admission decisions will be made in January.

It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that all required documents are forwarded to the Office of Admission, Drake University, 2507 University Ave, Des Moines, IA 50311-4505 by the postmark deadline of December 1.

  1. Complete the online application (free; you MUST select the pre-pharmacy application from the pulldown menu after you log in) or mail your application for admission with $25 fee.
  2. Send your official high school transcript and the High School Report & Counselor Recommendation form, which is included with the application for admission
  3. Have an official copy of your ACT or SAT test scores sent to the Office of Admission from the appropriate testing agency
  4. Submit an essay (see application for details) that demonstrates your thought process, writing ability and creativity

The number of students admitted directly to pre-pharmacy will depend in part on the number of applications received. Approximately 51% of students applying to pre-pharmacy for the 2008-2009 academic year were directly admitted. The average high school cumulative grade point average of the students offered admission was 3.93. The average ACT composite score was 29. The average ACT math score was 30. These benchmarks represent students who have mastered skills at the level of students who tend to progress into the professional program.

Students admitted directly to pre-pharmacy may progress to the professional PharmD program if they achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher in math and science subjects, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher overall, successfully interview for a place in the program, and satisfy other criteria. The grade point averages must be achieved no later than the end of the spring 2010 semester.
