THE APPLICATION PROCESS

 

Nearly 80 percent of Drake students graduate having had at least one internship.

A U.S. student is defined as a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or other eligible non-citizen. All other students should select international.

A transfer student is defined as a student with any college/university coursework taken AFTER high school graduation.

It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that all required documents are forwarded to the Office of Admission, Drake University, 2507 University Ave, Des Moines, IA 50311-4505 by the postmark deadline of December 1 (National Alumni Scholarship or pre-pharmacy applicants) or March 1 (non-pre-pharmacy). Applications received after the March 1 priority deadline will be considered on a space-available basis.

  1. Complete the online application (free) or mail your application for admission with $25 fee.
  2. Send your official high school transcript and the High School Report & Counselor Recommendation form, which is included with the application for admission
  3. Have an official copy of your ACT or SAT test scores sent to the Office of Admission from the appropriate testing agency
  4. Submit an essay (see application for details) that demonstrates your thought process, writing ability and creativity
  5. Letters of recommendation are not required but are welcome

Beginning October 15, applicants are notified of an admission decision within six weeks after all required materials have been received in the Office of Admission.

 

It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that all required documents are forwarded to the Office of Admission, Drake University, 2507 University Ave, Des Moines, IA 50311-4505 by the March 1 priority deadline for the fall term; spring term December 1; summer term April 15.

  2. Provide an official transcript from each college you’ve attended for all terms including summer.
  3. Furnish high school transcripts and ACT or SAT scores if you’ve earned fewer than 24 academic credit hours at the point of application

All transcripts must bear the official seal and signature of the official in charge of records and be sent directly to the Drake Office of Admission by each institution. Transcripts that have been in the student’s possession are not considered official documents.

    All translated records should be literal, not interpretative, and accompanied by the original-language record. All records should be freshly certified by the school, not by notaries or translators.
  3. Submit ACT or SAT scores directly from the testing agency for scholarship consideration or for admission to the pre-professional pharmacy program.
  4. Write and submit a personal essay and a summary of extracurricular activities (see application for details) written in English. Please do not send individual certificates of achievement.
  5. Submit at least one letter of recommendation from a guidance counselor or teacher.
  6. Take the TOEFL and submit scores to Drake. If not done prior to arrival on campus, the TOEFL must be completed during the orientation session before beginning the semester.
  7. Submit documented evidence of financial support for educational expenses. The financial certificate must be signed by the student and sponsor and either countersigned and sealed by the sponsor's bank or a separate letter or statement may be issued to support the information provided on the certificate. If you wish to apply for need-based financial aid, please submit the financial aid form.

Applicants wishing to improve their language proficiency before beginning an academic program may apply at the same time for admission to both an academic program and the Intensive English Program. With the exception of the pre-professional pharmacy program, Drake offers conditional admission to those applicants who meet the University’s academic requirements, but first need to improve English language skills.
