 Remember me

In 2006, Lawrence K. Fish, a 1966 graduate of Drake University, established a scholarship to commemorate his 15-year anniversary at Citizens Financial Group and to celebrate his Drake experience, to which he tributes to instilling in him a strong sense of conviction, helping to launch his enormously successful career. The Lawrence K. Fish Scholarship is awarded to an entering freshmen at Drake University who is a child of an employee of Citizens Financial Group, Inc. or is a resident of Massachusetts, New Hampshire or Rhode Island with a desire to major in journalism or business.

Citizens Financial Group, Inc. got its start in 1828 as a small community bank called the High Street Bank in Providence, Rhode Island. Today, it is a $160 billion commercial bank holding company headquartered in Providence, R.I., and, through its subsidiaries, has more than 1,600 branches and more than 24,000 employees in 40 states. It is one of the 10 largest commercial banking companies in the United States ranked by assets and deposits. CFG is owned by RBS (The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc). Under Mr. Fish’s leadership, the company has grown 25-fold since he joined in 1992.

The scholarship includes four years of Drake tuition, as well as room and board. An additional $2,000 per academic year is provided to each student to assist with books and miscellaneous expenses. The student must be interested in pursuing a degree in business or journalism. Mr. Fish stated, “I am doing this in order to provide a young person with an opportunity to attend this wonderful college with the luxury of being able to dedicate themselves fully to their education and time away at school, without financial worry.”

Interested students must submit both the scholarship application and Drake admission application materials no later February 1, 2009.
