Drake lecture to spotlight peaceful conflict resolution

Daoud Nassar, a third-generation Palestinian farmer, will give a lecture at Drake University titled, "We Refuse To Be Enemies," on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The talk, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. in Bulldog Theater in Olmsted Center, 2875 University Ave.
Nassar is the director of Tent of Nations, a project that seeks to bring youth of various cultures together to build bridges of understanding, reconciliation and peace. Youth from around the world, especially areas of conflict, are invited to the Nassar farm for face-to-face interaction and participation in community improvement projects.
The Nassars have been farming their land south of Bethlehem since 1924. In 1991, the Israeli government declared the farm to be Israeli territory and has made attempts to build roads through the property. The Nassars have been trying to retain control of their land through Israeli courts.
The lecture is sponsored by the Drake Center for Global Citizenship and the American Friends Service Committee.
