NOTE: The National Alumni Scholarship Days on February 6 and February 20 are scheduled for qualified scholarship applicants only. Family members of these competitors are welcome to attend the visit sessions as well. Prospective students who are not competing on these dates may arrange a visit to Drake on other dates.

Planning Your Trip

Hotel Accomodations:

  • Hotel Accommodations - Hotels located either downtown or in the western suburbs would be closet to Drake.
  • Feb. 20 Visitors: Please note the Iowa High School State Wrestling tournament will be held in Des Moines on the weekend of February 20. Consequently, hotels may be difficult to secure.  See the list of hotels, compiled by the Des Moines Convention and Visit Bureau, that will provide a discounted rate based on availability at the time of booking. Please indicate that you are attending the Drake University National Alumni Scholarship Day to receive the discount.

While in town, plan to explore this vibrant capital city full of entertainment, dining, and cultural outlets. Some highlights are listed for each weekend on the Local Options sheets, but visit for a full listing of area options.

Program Details

School Spirit Night Dessert Reception:

You are invited to join us for a casual dessert reception the Friday evening before your scholarship program. Please see details in the "School Spirit Night" invitation‌.

Program Itinerary:

Your day at Drake will begin with check-in at 7:30 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. See the full program itinerary here:

Class Options:

During your National Alumni Scholarship Day, two sessions are offered to introduce students to the academic experience at Drake. In addition to Academic Meetings, students and parents are encouraged to participate in a Class Option with a Drake faculty member at 10:30 and/or 11:30 during the day. Many interesting topics will be explored by Drake’s outstanding faculty.


  • Students will be contacted two weeks prior to the Scholarship Day via email to confirm the total number of guests for Friday evening and Saturday. Parents are invited to participate in the day’s optional activities.
  • On Saturday, students are encouraged to wear clothing suitable for a job interview.
  • Please bring one current, color, wallet-sized yearbook photograph for identification purposes for the selection committee. This photograph will not be returned.
  • Scholarship competition results will be mailed the week of March 14, 2016.
  • In the event of any unforeseen conflicts due to weather, illness, or family emergency, contact Lindsey Feikes at 515-271-2097 by 4 p.m. CST the Friday prior to your assigned Scholarship Day. If unforseen conflicts arise the morning of the Scholarship Day, please contact the Office of Admission at 515-271-4139 before 8:30 a.m.
