The Drake University National Alumni Association awards prestigious scholarships to top students. Applicants do not have to be related to Drake alumni to be eligible for this award. The scholarships awarded through the National Alumni Scholarship Program include:
Alumni and Carpenter Scholarships supersede all other Drake merit awards.
All scholarships are renewable for three additional years if the recipient is enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits each term and maintains the required minimum cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale: Alumni and Carpenter Scholarships 3.25; Trustee Scholarships 2.0. Additionally, Alumni Scholars must live in approved Drake University housing to renew the room and board portion of their full scholarship award.
National Alumni Scholars are selected by Drake's National Alumni Scholarship Committee on the basis of high scholastic achievement, extracurricular and community activities, leadership, communication skills, and potential for contributing to the academic and extracurricular life of Drake University. Whether an applicant is related to a Drake alumna/alumnus has no bearing on selection.
*Difference in eligible test scores is due to SAT altering the ACT concordance table for SAT tests taken March 2016 or later
National Alumni Scholarship applicants must ensure that all admission materials and the National Alumni Scholarship application materials are postmarked by December 1, 2016. There will be no exceptions. It is recommended that students provide their school personnel ample time to fulfill the request to mail transcripts to Drake and that students review their transcripts for accuracy. It is also recommended that candidates make a copy of their scholarship materials before mailing and obtain a certificate of mailing from a postal clerk to verify postmark date.

Drake National Alumni Scholarship applicants must participate in one of the scholarship days Saturday, February 4 or Saturday, February 18, 2017. The scholarship day competition is required for further consideration for the Alumni, Carpenter and Trustee Scholarships. Provisions to participate in one of the scholarship days via fax, e-mail and telephone will be made for applicants outside the continental United States. During their assigned scholarship day, applicants will have an individual interview with members of the selection committee, write a timed essay, and participate in additional activities. The National Alumni Scholarship day offers exciting opportunities to learn more about Drake University and experience its many advantages.
Indicate your scholarship day preference on the application. A scholarship day will be assigned to applicants based on the receipt date of completed application materials and program capacity. A student may request to change an assigned scholarship day prior to Monday, January 9, 2017; however, program limitations may not allow for the request to be granted. Confirmation information will be sent to all qualified applicants in mid-January. In the event of any unforeseen conflicts due to weather, illness or family emergency, contact 515-271-3181 by 4 p.m. CST the Friday prior to your assigned scholarship day or 515-271-4139 on the morning of the Scholarship Day to discuss any possible alternatives.
Awards are based on a variety of criteria depending on the type of scholarship and are not based on financial need. PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL SCHOLARSHIPS ARE RENEWABLE IF REQUIRED ACADEMIC STANDING AND GRADE POINT AVERAGE ARE MAINTAINED. For students entering the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences merit aid is available only through the fourth year of the six-year program.
