  • Representative student organizations actively engaged at Drake include Coalition of Black Students, Rainbow Union, La Fuerza Latina, El Ritmo Latino, International Student Association, Hillel, Muslim Student Association, Student Activists for Gender Equality, and Campus Fellowship.
  • Drake recently undertook a Campus Climate Assessment, which culminated in an in-depth, campus-wide survey in February 2015. The survey gauged the experiences and attitudes of current faculty, staff, and students. Through the remainder of the fall term, the Strategic Diversity Action Team will engage the campus community to identify next steps to address the issues raised in the report. Learn more at

Des Moines remains remarkably affordable and is enhanced by a growing cultural scene that features extensive theater, music, and art venues (not to mention the more than 100 free fine arts events Drake offers to the public each year).

Housing in historic neighborhoods borders Drake’s campus. A short bike or bus ride to areas of downtown Des Moines (particularly the East Village, Court Avenue District, and Western Gateway) leads to affordable urban lofts near art studios, theaters, and community organizations. Suburban locations offer a variety of housing options.

Consider what the Drake Neighborhood has to offer. Drake builds connections to the diverse communities surrounding it through an urban youth learning garden, an adult literacy program and legal clinic, and a variety of service-learning initiatives.
