Dover Castle. Now THAT'S a castle! Only Dover and Windsor castles withstood siege in 1216 when the French came in and swept through southern England. During WWII the tunnels dug under the cliffs served as headquarters for Operation Dynamo (Evacuation of Dunkirk) and as a hospital for rescued English airmen.
