Though we didn't spend too much time in the badlands, we went for a short hike to break up the driving. Even though it was surprisingly cool and comfortable, we quickly left everyone else behind and had some impressive scenery all to ourselves. Dave found a fossil bone fragment from the Oligocene (but like a good citizen he left it there), and the girls played mountain goat while Frederique soaked in the scenery.
