On January 25, 2000, a surprise blizzard hit North Carolina. Even as the
snow began piling up, the National Weather Service was claiming there
would be minimal accumulation. Well, the NWS has spent far too much time
in Colorado, because in North Carolina two feet is not considered
minimal! In fact, not only was it the most snow to fall in the Triangle
area on record, it was 2/3 of the record accumulation for the whole
season, and that was set back in the 19th century. Needless to
say the state was crippled for a week, but we had fun!
