Our first trip out into Guatemala City is on our way to visit with CALDH. The walk is about half an hour, and on the way we visit the Central Plaza. Here we see the Presidential Palace, site of all of the coups and government changes in Guatemala's past. This morning there are some URNG banners where a few protesters are camping out, and a lone woman trying to bring attention to human rights abuses by government officials, but mostly it is quiet. We visit the Cathedral, which has six large stone pillars with some of the names of those killed during "The Violence". Inside the Cathedral is ornate workmanship and dark paintings.
