Copan, one of the most important Classic
Mayan arcaeological sites, and reached
its peak in the 8th Century; later than
Tikal in Guatemala, but before Chichen
Itza in Mexico. Despite the impressive
ruins of pyramids and temple complexes,
its real value to archaeologists comes
from its impressive array of glyphs and
stellae which record historical events
and the lives of the ancient kings. We
