Economist Julio Hernandez

Julio, with a PhD in economics from UNC focuses now on international relations and economics. With him we discuss the tradeoffs that come with globalization for a small country like Guatemala, especially when it gets caught in a tug-of-war, like the current one between the US and Brazil. Other issues we discuss are the effects on Guatemala's economy of coffee, tourism, and money sent back from those working in the US (the three largest sources of foreign exchange), the international drug trade, neoliberal policies, and the difference between collectivism and communism. It is interesting for us to contrast the views of Dr. Hernandez with those of Dr. Lee from CIEN.
