URNG

We meet in the congress building with Pablo Ceto, one of the representatives of the Guatemala National Revolutionary (URNG) party. The room is framed by a huge, imposing mural detailing oppression up until Guatemalan independence. Pablo fought as a guerilla during the war, and he discusses the reasons for the uprising, as well as what the URNG is currently doing to try to address those issues. We learn about what barriers might in place which stand in the way of the implementation of their agenda (corruption/impunity, mistrust of the government, etc), and how they hope to use their influence even though they are a small minority party. We also talk a little about Mr. Ceto's experience in the jungles, and the transition from being a guerilla group to a peace-time political party, working with the same people with whom he used to fight.
