On the drive to Panajachel, we are accompanied by the priestess Calixta. Her insight and knowledge of the countryside is a joy, as is her bubbling good humor. Most of the farming along the roads is done by campasinos. The diversity of foods grown on small plots will contrast strongly with some of what we will see later growing in more productive lowlands.
