A hotel founded by an indigenous collective which has grown enormously in the last ten years. Some students weren't quite sure what to make of the caged squirrels and raptors, but overall we enjoyed the swaying bridge and interesting sights.
On the drive to Panajachel, we are accompanied by the priestess Calixta. Her insight and knowledge of the countryside is a joy, as is her bubbling good humor. Most of the farming along the roads is done by campasinos. The diversity of foods grown on small plots will contrast strongly with some of what we will see later growing in more productive lowlands.
