Welcome and thank you for visiting the Drake University Community School of Music’s—DUCSOM’s—website.  Within the Mission of Drake University, DUCSOM and its faculty strive to awaken and nurture our students' musical talent. DUCSOM’s students exemplify Drake University’s commitment to life-long learning.  DUCSOM teaches students of all ages—from three year-olds to senior citizens—and of all levels—from beginners to professionals. Our students contribute to the vitality of the Greater Des Moines and the surrounding Central Iowa communities, as well as to the Drake University Community.

• Individual instruction is available in piano, voice, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, organ, and music theory.
• The Young Violinist Program, offers instruction to children ages 3-8.
• The Rising Stars Youth Show Choir consists of ten to twenty singers’ ages 6-12.
• The Quartet Project for string players, a collaborative endeavor with composer Geoffrey Hudson and seven other national partner schools offers students and their teachers a first-hand opportunity to be involved in the creation of a collection of new string quartet works.
• Music Theory/Aural Skills in the Young Artists Program is for students interested in taking the AP Theory Exam or placing out of one or more semesters of theory and aural skills.
• Basic Musicianship/Aural Skills Instruction is for students not interested in the Young Artists Program’s theory/ aural skills offerings but who want additional information to enhance their musical literacy.
