Attendance/Grading Policy

Students are expected to be present at all rehearsals and performances. The excellence of all Drake performing organizations is dependent on complete attendance during each official class meeting and performance.

Excused Absences

Absence from rehearsals or performances will be excused for reasons of severe illness or extraordinary circumstances. Excuses will be handled on a per item basis and should not be considered accepted unless confirmed by Mr. Classen. If you need to be excused from a rehearsal, call (229-3653) or e-mail Mr. Classen as much in advance of the absence as possible.

Unexcused Absences

Any absence which does not receive approval will be considered unexcused. Each unexcused absence will result in the loss of one letter grade. Unexcused absence from performances will result in an "F" for the semester. Punctuality is also extremely important, since our rehearsal time is limited. Being on time means having you and your instruments ready to go at 6:30. Every two tardies will equal one unexcused absence.

Grading

You are graded on preparation and professionalism. You are expected to have practiced the music before rehearsals. Being consistently unprepared for rehearsal, being late or missing rehearsals will jeopardize your grade and possibly you position in the jazz ensembles.
