Graduate level stage experience for undergraduate students with full

The Drake University Opera Theatre is a performance ensemble, and therefore a listed course offering. All Drake students involved in the opera are selected through an audition process. Under the musical and stage direction since 2003, Drake University Faculty Member, Dr. Ann K. Cravero enthusiastically introduces young students to the charm and splendor of opera. Performances are produced in the Performance Arts Hall accompanied by a collaborative orchestra of Drake Faculty, Students, and Community Musicians.
The Drake Opera Theatre provides students with opportunities to work with world-renowned directors, coaches and singers. Most recently Drake Alumni and former Metropolitan Opera Baritone, Sherrill Milnes, as well as his wife, soprano Maria Zouves assisted in directing scenes from Gilbert and Sullivan's 'The Pirates of Penzance.' Likewise, stage director Gary Race with his 30-plus years of experience, and direction of 100 productions presented an opera theatre masterclass in 2005. Students also benefit from collaboration with the Drake University Theatre Department Faculty, Tony Humrichouser and Deena Conley who provide dialogue coaching.
Students of Drake Opera Theatre often heard singing and performing for local Retirement homes, and providing community outreach to those in need. The Friends of Drake Arts graciously provide a portion of the funding for productions. If you would like to be a sponsor of the Drake Opera Theatre, please contact Ann.Cravero@drake.edu
