| Eva Brauninger, Teaching Artist of string bass at Drake University, has been principal bass of the Des Moines Symphony for the past 35 years and was recently named principal emeritus. Mrs. Brauninger received her BM degree, cum laude, from Wichita State University, her MM degree in Music Literature from Eastman School of Music, and did post-graduate study at Indiana University. Her bass teachers were Oscar Zimmerman at Eastman, Murray Grodner at Indiana, and Eldon Obrecht at the University of Iowa.
Mrs. Brauninger has extensive teaching experience, having been string bass instructor at Western Washington University in Bellingham, and Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. Mrs. Brauninger is the author of original Suzuki string bass material and, while string department chair in the West Des Moines schools for 23 years, established one of the first Suzuki programs in the public schools. Since 1994, she has been on the faculty of the Richard Davis Bass Conference held at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. | |
