Central Mission of the Organization:
The central mission of the Iowa Division of the UNA is to provide grassroots support for the United Nations system as well as to develop and relay citizen's ideas to the United Nations and United States leadership. The Iowa Division heightens public understanding and concern about global issues and their relationship to the UN system through research, education and information services.
History of the Organization:
Founded in 1953. The Iowa Division of the UNA is affiliated with the UNA-USA, a national organization devoted to support of the United Nations.
International Issues and Focus:
All issues related to the United Nations.
Events and Programs Sponsored:
Publishes Iowa UNA Forum.
Supports local chapters in Ames, Des Moines, Grinnell, Johnson County, Linn County
and Southeast Iowa.
Sponsors statewide programming on topics such as human rights, immigration and climate
change.
United Nations Day.
Support for Iowa High School Model United Nations program held at the University
of Northern Iowa in spring of each year.
Support for college and university students attending Model United Nations programs.
Membership: $35 annually.
