Images of Development:
Scenes from Mexico

Farm land in Chiapas. This piece of land is relatively level. As the hill in the background suggests, however, much of Chiapas is covered with rugged terrain. Corn is often grown on hillsides, which are prone to erosion. Plots are too small and the land too uneven and rocky to allow for modern mechanized agriculture, as practiced in the Midwestern United State.
