Scenes from Mexico
This
home belongs to a farmer and his family in the indigenous village of Zinacantan
located in central highlands of Chiapas. This home has electricity, but
no running water. The family raises mums for sale in the local market.
They also grow corn on a small hillside plot and tend to a few goats and
chickens. The little boy in this picture attends a local elementary school.
School instruction is in Spanish, although the family speaks a native language
in the home. In this village, schooling is available only through the sixth
grade.
