‌‌Welcome to ‌‌the College of Arts & Sciences.

‌98.5%. No, that is not an enviable exam score, nor is it a statement about the haves and have-nots. Well, then again, maybe it is. 98.5 percent—that is the accomplishment rate of Drake Arts & Science majors who graduated in 2017. In short, within six months of graduation virtually all of our graduates had taken jobs, started graduate or professional school, or were engaged in activities (Peace Corps, Teach for America, internships) related to their career goals.

Why did they succeed? Because they learned how to learn. That’s the beauty of a liberal arts education – at Drake, where active and collaborative learning, in the classroom and lab, as well as in the community, in the field, and around the globe, prepares you for a meaningful personal life, professional accomplishment, and responsible global citizenship.

You choose your passion, you set your direction. Select from one (or more) of our 40 majors spread across the sciences, humanities, social sciences, and fine arts (and sometimes the intersections between them), and work under the guidance of accomplished faculty members passionate about teaching and committed to scholarship and creative performance. Realize that the abilities to think critically and creatively, to communicate clearly, and to understand issues and ideas in context have been and will continue to be the qualities of an informed, engaged citizen. And remember that college is about exploring choices, investigating possibilities, and realizing potential.

I invite you to explore the possibilities in the College of Arts & Sciences. Open your eyes, open your mind, open the door to your future.
