ART 021 - DIGITAL
PRINT PRODUCTION
Introduction to the use of Macintosh OS based computer
applications for layout and production. This course
will focus on learning current page composition applications
and will examine digital illustration and photo editing
applications. Projects will concentrate on efficiency
and accuracy in the design of predetermined layouts
with opportunity for student generated design. Prereq.:
Must be freshman or sophomore to enroll and an Art & Design,
Advertising or Magazines major, or consent of instructor.
ART 051 - TYPOGRAPHY
I
Introduction to typography and the study of letterforms.
Through a series of projects, critiques, and lectures,
students develop technical skills and a refined aesthetic
by concentrating on how typographic form creates
and supports content. Course topics will include
terminology,
typographic history, and technical issues related
to typography. Prereq.: ART 013, ART 015, and ART
021
ART 052 - GRAPHIC
DESIGN I
Introduction to the primary compositional concepts
of graphic design. Lectures, projects, and critiques
develop graphic design problem-solving skills through
the critical evaluation of concept, creativity, and
technical ability. Emphasis is placed on the process
of development toward a solution. Prereq.: ART 013,
ART 015, and ART 021.
ART 114 - DESIGN
FOR THE WEB
This course addresses the developing technologies
in interactive, web, and multi-media fields. Projects
concentrate on the design of interactive productions
for the web and CD-ROM. The course includes the examination
of relevant digital technologies and software applications
including web page composition, digital animation,
and digital illustration. Prereq.: ART 051 and ART
052 permission.
ART 115 - TYPOGRAPHY
II
This intermediate course will explore the technical
and visual problem solving issues and aesthetic uses
of type. Creative thinking is encouraged with an
emphasis on both the technical and expressive use
of type. Projects
explore the interpretive and plastic aspects of type
and their role in effective visual communication.
Prereq.: ART 51 and ART 52.
ART 116 - GRAPHIC
DESIGN II
Further exploration of strategies, processes, and
technical knowledge needed for the creation of communicative
imagery. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between
semantic and visual information. Projects involve
research
and the analysis of message and meaning in relation
to visual communications. Prereq.: ART 51 and ART 52
ART
150 - SPECIAL TOPICS/ GRAPHIC DESIGN
This two-week intensive course will fully explore
basic components of visual and interactive design
in flash
with an emphasis on application as a tool for website
design. Students will investigate interface development,
basic and fundamental approaches to animation and
basic scripting for interactivity. Projects will
focus on
the development of an interactive portfolio geared
for web distribution as well as CD production.
ART
151 - PUBLICATION DESIGN
This course covers a variety of topics central to
the design of long format publications. Through the
development
applied projects students will attain a strong foundation
in the technical and conceptual skills utilized to
design publications. Course activities will include
readings, lectures and discussions of techniques,
instruction in the use of software and hardware,
a series of design
projects and critiques and discussions of these projects.
Prereq.: ART 115 or ART 116. ART 152 - ADVANCED
INTERACTIVE DESIGN
Prereq.: ART 115 or ART 116.
ART 155 - GRAPHIC
DESIGN III
Advanced professional projects are introduced, including
identity and logotype design, editorial design, posters,
and advertising. Emphasis is given to research, critical
evaluation, presentation, and production techniques.
Prereq.: ART 115 and ART 116.
ART 156 - GRAPHIC
DESIGN IV
Students initiate individual projects of personal
interest in the preparation of a professional portfolio.

ART 115 and 116.
