Fine Arts Honor scholarships in Art are merit based and determined primarily through considering the quality of the art work submitted.
Must students major or minor in a Fine Arts program to receive a Fine Arts Honor scholarship?
A student applying for the Fine Arts Honor Scholarship in Art must be a full-time student planning to be an
Art History, Graphic Design or Studio Art major.
What preparation and materials are necessary for applying for the Fine Arts Honor Scholarship?
The department is transitioning to an on-line application process. We require 8 to 10 digital images and completion of the on-line application (viewable from the department website:http//www.drake.edu/artsci/art by January.)
What images should I include?
You should submit the best examples from your portfolio. We also suggest you include artwork derived from direct observation.
What are the procedures/timetables for art scholarships?
The on-line application deadline is March 1. If funds are still available, the faculty will meet again on April 1 to review late arriving applications.
What is the process/timetable for notification of awards?
After a faculty review of portfolios, notification of awards will be mailed out by the end of March.
What is the criteria for renewal?
Faculty with whom the student has studied will review the performance of the student~the progress, quality of work, diligence, potential, and academic achievement.
If a student enrolls without having earned a scholarship, what are the chances of earning a scholarship as a sophomore, junior or senior?
Students who do well can be awarded a scholarship for the subsequent year depending on performance.
What are the scholarship opportunities for current students?
Scholarships can be maintained for the entire time spent at Drake. Amounts can be raised or lowered
depending on performance.
