Meteorologists
condense an 'infinite variety' of clouds into a
set of characteristic forms that fall within categories
of "genera", "species" and "varieties".
This system of inclusion and exclusion by kinds
echoes that of Linneaus's binomial nomenclature
for the classification of plants and animals. In
my new beeswax paintings, the potential metaphorical
complexity of such a relation as clouds to organisms
is explored.
