Biographical Information::
Sarah McCoy received her B.A. from The University of Iowa in 1999 in Graphic Design and her M.A. (2003) and M.F.A. in 2005 from the University of Iowa in Graphic Design. Her thesis included “Response Collages and the Making of News” synthesizes both areas of journalism and the expressiveness of type and image in the dissemination of news.

McCoy received a Graduate Certificate from The University of Iowa Center for the Book in 2006 with an emphasis in Artists’ Books and Letterpress printing. Her first paper was presented at ATYPI's (Association Typographique Internationale) 2007 annual conference in Brighton, England entitled, "Typographic Form and the Permanence of Letterpress Type." Currently she is a partner in the company, The Permanent Collection- a fine printing, book arts, and letterpress card company located in Des Moines and Iowa City, Iowa.

Statement::
My current work has involved working in a “designer as reporter” approach, developing my own graphic commentary and response to current events. I continue to be interested in exploring the relationship between representations of information and increasing the expressive quality of text and image in current events. I continue to explore design and book arts work that seeks to answer the questions such as, what happens to the fleeting news information in a more permanent form? How does the sequence of content and imagery influence the messaging? How does the structure and form of the book or impression of letterpress type inform or enhance the information?
