Message From The Dean
Welcome to the College of Arts & Sciences.
The ability to think, learn, and to express oneself both rigorously and creatively, and the capacity to understand ideas and issues in context are requirements for success in the future. The faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences is dedicated to help students develop those fundamental skills and abilities that provide the foundation for effective citizenship in this century.
College is about exploring choices, investigating possibilities. Whether you are interested in the fine arts, the humanities, the natural sciences, or the social sciences, you will final unusual opportunities at Drake.
The College offers 56 majors. In addition, students can create their own individualized major. Students may also take courses in the professional schools as a complement to an Arts and Sciences major. In other words, students have the opportunity to design a program that meets personal interests and skills.
The faculty in the College is outstanding. Faculty members serve as advisors and work with students to design programs that meet personal interests and goals. The faculty is committed to helping students develop their talents to the fullest. These mentoring relationships often lead to life-long friendships between faculty members and students.
I invite you to explore the possibilities in the College of Arts and Sciences. If you have question, email us at ask.as@drake.edu
