Student Quotes:

from Jesse Theisen-Toupal

In my opinion the BCMB program is the elite science program at Drake University. The best thing about the BCMB program is the nurturing, freedom and possibilities for success. There is a progressive core curriculum that is updated according to the dynamic needs of students. The curriculum gives a core education in the liberal arts, an in-depth and hands-on education in the sciences, and still allows enough freedom to follow other interests in the educational process. In the BCMB program you are not just another number. The BCMB advisors, as well as other students, have special bonds that are created through meetings, classes, and social gatherings. The advisors care about your future and give you many contact opportunities at research institutions or with other faculty to help you develop your skills and make professional contacts. The BCMB program is the perfect program to develop your science abilities.

from Molly Fiedler (Graduated 2003)

I'm a double major in BCMB and International Relations. This combination of two very different fields has proven to be challenging and time consuming, but definitely worth it. The flexibility of both of my majors has allowed me to study abroad twice, work on major research projects in both fields, do summer internships, be involved in campus activites, do volunteer work (which I definitely recommend) and still graduate in four years. The positive experiences that I have had in both of my majors have reshaped my career goals. I went from wanting to be a medical doctor (doesn't every bio major want to be a doctor at some point?) to applying to graduate programs in Epidemiology and International Health.  My strong academic base in both the sciences and the humanities has made me a fabulous candidate for graduate schools and jobs, and I now have many opportunities to combine my two interests in my further education and career. BCMB allowed me to develop and explore my own unique interests, and has helped me to find the career path that best fits me.
