2007 Award Recipients: Eveline Rusdianto, Mary Kay Caniglia, Danielle Doty, and Elizabeth Belson


George C. Huff Freshman Biology Award

This award was established in 1976 and is presented to the first-year biology student with the highest academic performance in the General & Pre-professional Biology course, BIO 012. Winners’ names appear on a plaque in Olin Hall. The 2007 recipient was Elizabeth Belson.


Luther Sherman Ross Award

This award was established in 1958. Each year the biology faculty selects one senior biology major to receive this award in recognition of the student’s academic excellence, outstanding performance in undergraduate research, and promise for success in the field of biology. Winners’ names appear on a plaque in Olin Hall. The 2007 recipient was Eveline Rusdianto.


Fae M. Shawhan Fine Forceps Award

This award was established in 1958. Each year the biology faculty selects one biology major to receive the award based on outstanding achievement in Comparative Anatomy. Winners’ names appear on a plaque in Olin Hall. The 2007 recipient was Danielle Doty.


Fae M. Shawhan Premedical Award

This award was established in 1972. Each year the biology faculty selects one student who is completing a premedical program of study at Drake who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and has been accepted into medical school. The award recognizes the student’s outstanding academic performance and promise for success in the practice of medicine. Winners’ names appear on a plaque in Olin Hall. The 2007 recipient was Mary Kay Caniglia.


Frances Rogers Student Research Honor Lecture

This award was established in 1993. Each year the biology faculty selects one senior biology major who completed a meritorious approved undergraduate research project in biology. The student will present a summary of the research project at the weekly Biology Seminar for students and faculty. The award is presented to the student selected to honor the memory of Dr. Frances Rogers, Professor of Biology, in recognition of her interest and support of the research activities of biology majors at Drake University. Winners’ names appear on a plaque in Olin Hall. The 2007 recipient will be announced May 2, 2007.


Richard Skidmore Memorial Biology Scholarship

The Richard Skidmore Memorial Biology Scholarship is awarded in memory of Rick, a Drake Biology major, in recognition of his interest, curiosity, and outstanding achievement in Biology. The scholarship is made possible from a gift by the Skidmore family to Drake University. Sophomore and junior biology majors with a GPA of 2.5 or greater may apply for this scholarship in the spring semester.
