Description:
Flowering heads have from 8 to 15 yellow ray flowers surrounding a central cluster of yellow disc flowers. Leaves are lance-shaped, and arranged in pairs on the stem, with each set of paired leaves being widely separated from the next (up to 20 cm apart). Leaf margins have conspicuous, evenly- arranged teeth, that are angled toward the leaf tips. The flowering heads are on long, rather leafless stalks. The leaves of this species are more widely spaced on the stem than those of either H. strumosus or H. tuberosis. The false sunflower occurs in woods and woodland edges from July through September.
