Methods

Photographs of wildflowers were taken in situ, in the field, at the Saylorville Lake Recreation site, with the aid of a 35 mm camera, using standard photographic methods. Bracketed exposures of the wildflowers were made using Kodachrome and occasionally Ektachrome, color-positive, films. Images, selected from the resulting pool of photographic slides, were scanned into a Macintosh computer with the aid of a Nikon Coolscan, slide scanner. Captured images were refined using Adobe Photoshop 3.0 software. These images are stored in JPEG format, at a screen resolution of 144 pixels per inch. They were imported into Adobe PageMill 2.0, for preparation of these web pages. All photographs, except as mentioned in the "Acknowledgements" section, were made by the author for the purpose of developing this guide, and constitute original work.

Descriptions of the wildflower taxa presented in this web site are based on flower specimens collected at the Saylorville Lake Recreation site, by the author, during the course of this project. The specimens were prepared according to standard herbarium methods, and collected with the permission of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, under a collecting permit issued by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Taxonomic descriptions included in this web site are those of the author, and constitute original work. Flowering periods given in the species descriptions are based on field observations at the Saylorville Lake site or interpolated from various references. Species identifications are based on the author's evaluations of the herbarium specimens collected for this project, and are the responsibility of the author.

The taxa presented in this web site are grouped according to Family. Individual taxa within Families are grouped by color, and may be accessed through the Index to Wildflowers.
