Description:
The flowering head appears as an urn-shaped cluster of white involucral bracts which surround a central core of yellow disc flowers. Ray flowers are absent. The base of the "urn" is covered by cotton-like hairs, as are the stems and undersides of leaves. This cottony "coat" gives the plant a greenish-gray, or sage-like appearance. Leaves are narrow and lance-shaped, and attach individually to the stem. They lack petioles. Leaf margins are smooth, but may appear undulated. The inflorescence is highly branched, and bears many flowering heads. Blooms from August into October in fields. Native to N. A.
