Career Resources

"The humanities, once seen once seen as the core, have been replaced by occupational majors. Ironically, these courses of study fail to demonstrate that they're better preparation than the liberal arts and sciences for their associated occupations and professsions. Medical schools do not prefer particular majors, not even biology, so long as basic pre-med courses are taken succesfully. The Association of American Law Schools recommends courses that stress reading, writing, speaking, critical and logical thinking. Law schools report that by yardsticks of law review and grades, their best students come from math, the classics, and literature - with political science, economics, "pre-law," and "legal studies" ranking lower."

What Can You Do With An English Major?
Meet our some of our recent alumni, and see what they have done.

Not our alumni, but English majors one and all: Famous names

The Career Center
This is your best resource on campus. Visit the Center, its virtual site by clicking on its name, and its actual site in "The Point" (on 27th, behind the Law School). Watch for announcements of job fairs, interviews, and internships.

Howard 325
In the main Howard Hall office, you will find a small library of information concerning careers for English majors and minors. These books can be borrowed (in exchange for claims on your firstborn if not returned). See the secretary for details.
