Course Description

This is the entry level course for further study in mathematics.  The emphasis is placed on defining, analyzing, and interpreting functions such as linear, exponential, power, logarithmic and polynomial from a numerical, graphical, symbolic, and verbal view.  A review of trigonometry and solutions to equations and systems of equations is included.

Proficient use of a graphing calculator is necessary.  A TI-83Plus Silver Edition is used in class discussion and, therefore, either the TI-83Plus or the TI-83Plus Silver Edition is the recommended model for student purchase.  A useful accessory is a TI-GraphLink that is used to download from the TI website additional applications that can be beneficial to class work.

The prerequisite for this course is successful completion of high school mathematics including Algebra II/ Trig.  The Prerequisites Skills Lists gives practice problems that you should be able to do.  All problems are taken from the text and are identified by section from which they were taken.
