The Center is prepared to offer to each declared member of the humanities faculty who is conducting research in the humanities the following resources while he or she is on sabbatical leave:
- Library privileges at the University of Iowa. These privileges are available through an arrangement with the Center for Advanced Studies, a scholarly facility maintained on the Oakdale Campus of the University of Iowa.
- A work study student employed as a research assistant. The Center will support forty (40) hours of work at the rate approved by the Office of Professional and Career Development Services for the level of assistance required. The faculty member also may apply for additional assistance, if it will be applied to a specific and extensive project and if funds are available.
- One paid trip to a conference in a separate but relevant area of inquiry capable of contributing directly to the scholarly projects of the sabbatical. Considerations of cost and distance will also enter into determination of the amount awarded. Participants for relatively high-cost trips might be expected to assume a portion of the total expenses.
- A maximum of fifteen hundred ($1500) dollars is available to each faculty member who qualifies for this program although the Center will consider slightly higher requests.
Applications for any aspect of this program should be submitted to the Board via the director. Faculty members on sabbatical also are encouraged to apply for participation in the other programs offered by the Center, particularly in the Center of Advanced Studies Program and in the Program in Grant Writing.
