Sandya Hewamanne received her BA in Sociology from University of Colombo, Sri Lanka and her MA and Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin.  She received several prestigious fellowships including Fulbright (1995), Social Science Research Council (2003) and Wenner Gren (1999 and 2005).  Her research had been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Cultural Dynamics, Anthropology of Work Review, and Feminist Studies.  Her research interests include globalization, transnational production, identity, cultural politics and feminist and post colonial theory.  She has previously taught at University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, University of Texas at Austin and Hartwick College.
