THEATRE ARTS DEPARTMENT
Audition / Portfolio requirements for Admission

Students interested in pursuing B.F.A degrees in Musical Theatre, Acting, Directing, and Theatre Education at Drake University must prepare an audition for entrance into the program.
It should include the following:

2 contrasting monologues (two minutes each).  The total audition should not exceed four minutes.  The first monologue should be from the classic repertoire (Ancient Greece-19th century) and the second monologue should be contemporary (Mid-Twentieth Century-Present).

Students interested in the B.F.A. Musical Theatre Major should follow the monologue information described above, as well as preparing:

2 contrasting sixteen bar cuts from the Musical Theatre canon.

Those auditioning for the Musical Theatre Major should also be prepared to learn a short dance combination on the day of the audition.

Those wishing to pursue a B.A.  or minor in theatre are not required, but are encouraged  to audition.

Prospective B.F.A. Design/ Technical students must prepare a portfolio for entrance into the program.

The portfolio can include any of the following, but is not limited to copies of (no originals, please) drawings, sketches, paintings, stage management paperwork, photographs, programs, or posters that the student has designed, etc.

As with a performance audition, our preference would be to meet with you in person during Drake Theatre Audition Day(s). An on-site interview is best so that you can present your work. If that is not possible, then a copy of your portfolio should be mailed to the department and a phone interview will be scheduled.   A portfolio on CD-ROM or DVD is acceptable.
