Hello everyone. I am Julie Burt, you newly appointed FD Student Concerns Chair. I am here to report, via email, a summary of the weekly Fiderlick Dramaturg meeting. If you have any concerns about the Theatre Department I would be the person to tell. Email me about questions, concerns, marriage proposals, or just to say hi. I love email and will respond to anything. :) I will then bring up your concerns at the following FD meeting for discussion.
What is FD? FD stands for Fiderlick Dramaturg. We are the student voice of Drake Theatre. Some things we do: Support student directed plays, plan formals and picnics, organize and order Drake Theatre photos, t-shirts, mugs, you name it! You can kind of compare it to a Thespian Troupe that you may have had in high school. Everyone is welcome to every meeting and is encouraged to speak up about the issues we discuss. The more ideas, the better the department will get! Meetings are ***WEDNESDAYS at 10:15 PM in the 2nd floor lounge of FAC*** ( by the vending machines). It's also a great way to meet new people you didn't even know were in the department, especially if you are new to Drake and want to get your feet wet. And Emily usually brings snacks, so where can you go wrong?
Here's what happened at the last FD meeting, Weds, Sept. 16, 1998: (Note: Sept. 23 meeting cancelled due to Caucasian Chalk Circle tech)
-Photos ordered at the slide show last Spring have been processed and will be ready to pick up soon. More info to come shortly.
-Formal will be on Saturday evening, November 21st (the weekend after Major Barbara and the weekend before Thanksgiving). The location has not been chosen yet. There will be a cash bar. There is a debate whether to include dinner with the dance or not this year. This will be decided at a future meeting. Opinions? Want to know what Formal is about? Email me.
-Drake Theatre Merchandising!: We tallied your votes on the opinion poster and found the most wanted were t-shirts and bumper stickers. Another good suggestion at the meeting was pajama pants or shorts. It was decided all of these things will say "Drake Theatre", not "Drake Fine Arts". We will begin looking at prices and the idea of ordering two items, instead of only t-shirts like last year. Bumper sticker cost would be minimal, so that may be done in addition to the two items chosen. You like pajama pants? Come to the meeting and tell us! or email me.....
-The new FD Freshman Representative will be voted in at the September 30th meeting. That's this Weds. Come and support the future of FD or run for the position yourself! Any first year student may run for the position. It entails attending the weekly meetings and being the voice of your class. Questions? You should know who to ask by now.
-I was elected the new Student Concerns Chair (yay!)
-Improv Group to be started by Emily Chason, our beloved President. Everyone is welcome to come and play! First meeting is this Monday (tomorrow) at 10:15 PM in Studio 55 of FAC. If this is changed, you will be notified by email.
-A bulletin board in the basement will be set up for ACTF (American College Theatre Festival) Information. Faculty with postings for ACTF, please give an FD Board Member anything you would like put on the board or post it at your leisure. FYI: ACTF Festival is at Iowa State in Ames this year!!
