What is Business Intelligence?
Business Intelligence (BI) is a set of technologies and processes that help decision makers use data to understand and analyze organizational performance. BI enhances a decision support environment through data warehousing, reporting and analytics. Generally, business intelligence makes use of three types of reports:
- Dashboards: High level insights into trends or conditions, usually using easy-to-understand visual or graphic displays
- Analytical Reports: Detailed reports that support strategic decisions over a period of time or that enable predictive planning
- Operational reports: Daily queries for operational activates such as a list of all students qualified for the President’s List each term or the list of students advised by each faculty member
