Drake’s Student Health Insurance
for the Coverage Period of August 1, 2012-July 31, 2013
NOTICE: As of March 16, 2012, new federal Health Care Reform regulations were passed. These changes will result in substantial student health insurance policy changes beginning August 1, 2012. The premium will increase to include the required increased minimum insurance coverage levels.
United Health Care will write Drake University's voluntary and international student health insurance plans beginning August 1, 2012. More information will be posted on this site as becomes available. A Blueview Announcement will go out to students on what the plan(s) will cover and cost by end of April 2012.

F1 and J1 Visa status International students will automatically be enrolled in and billed for the student health insurance plan. To enroll international dependent(s) and/or spouse into the insurance plan, please contact the Drake International Center at 515-271-2084.
Domestic students (U.S. citizens and permanent residents) and any other visa status students will not automatically be enrolled in the health insurance plan. Domestic students enrolled in 6 or more credit hours and are in a Drake degree seeking program may voluntarily enroll in the student health insurance plan online at www.sas-mn.com
PLAN HIGHLIGHTS for the August 1, 2011-July 31, 2012 PLAN YEAR
1. The plan administrator continues to be Student Assurance Services. www.sas-mn.com The insurance is underwritten by Columbian Life Insurance.
2. The Wellness (preventative) benefit is $200 a plan year. A $20 copay for a preferred provider office visit applies. Deductible does not apply.
5. The Prescription maximum coverage is $1000 per plan year.
6. Deductibles are: $300 per plan year for preferred providers. $500 per plan year for non-preferred providers.
7. No lifetime plan maximum.

July 15, 2011 through September 15, 2011 and January 1, 2012 through February 15, 2012.

RE: Student Dependent and/or Spouse Coverage Enrollment. If the student wants to purchase coverage for their spouse or dependent(s), then the student must sign up their dependent(s) and/or spouse at the time that the student enrolls in the insurance. Payment must also be made at the time of enrollment.
