The Hawley Foundation Lecture 2018: The Truth about Jonestown, and Other Fictions [Academics]

Dr. Rebecca Moore examines these competing narratives in order to understand voices that have been erased from popular media accounts: those of women, African Americans, and citizens of Guyana.

Meet & Greet with Jon Bowermaster [Academics]

The Principal Center for Global Citizenship is hosting Bowermaster, 1976 SJMC alum, on campus Tuesday-Wednesday, April 10-11. “Writer, filmmaker and adventurer” Jon Bowermaster’s resume includes: • Magazine writer and editor, and documentary writer and producer, most prominently with National Geographic • Six-time grantee of the National Geographic Expeditions Council • Founder of Oceans 8 Films and One Ocean Media Foundation (he has traveled around the world to create documentaries about the world’s oceans) • His recent work has been in environmental activism. He and partner actor Mark Ruffalo have written and produced several anti-fracking documentaries. • His latest project is a series of short documentaries called Hudson River Stories.

His recent work has been in environmental activism, including anti-fracking films and a series of short documentaries on the Hudson River. Professor Chris Porter will be on hand to discuss how he uses 3D printing in his classes and to show students how to use the printer.

A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, in international studies and journalism, Ms. Gibson went on to a Fulbright fellowship in South Korea and a Master’s program at Georgetown University. She is now the Director of Communications at the Korea Economic Institute. Lunch will be served thanks to financial support from the Principal Center for Global Citizenship at Drake.
