Welcome to Drake University!

As part of your financial aid package, you may want to consider on-campus employment as a resource for meeting your college expenses. Students with Federal Work-Study awards are given priority in hiring for on-campus jobs.

To provide you with additional information regarding the student employment process, you will find the following questions and answers helpful:

If I accept a Work-Study Award, how do I get a job on campus?  During the summer prior to your first semester at Drake University, you may have a work-study job assigned to you. During your Orientation in the summer, a representative will be available to answer your questions about work-study and have applications available for you to complete.  These applications must be returned prior to the last day of the last Orientation in order for you to have a job assigned to you.  During July, you will receive an email to your Drake e-mail account indicating where you have been assigned.  Then you must either accept or decline the assignment.  If you accept, your supervisor will contact you.  If you decline, no other job will be assigned to you.  At that point, you may access the website www.drake.edu/career/student/on_campus_employment.php where jobs on campus are posted.  When you find one you are interested in, you may contact the supervisor.  If you need assistance, please contact Human Resources at 1-800-44-DRAKE, extension 3741.

If I am a returning student, but have not worked on campus before, what is the process?  Jobs are listed online at www.drake.edu/career/student/on_campus_employment.php.  If you see a job that interests you, simply the contact the supervisor whose name and number is listed.  Once hired, you will need to come to Human Resources to complete the employment paperwork.

What forms do I need to fill out before I can begin working? If this is your first job at Drake, you need to complete an I-9 and State and Federal W-4 forms. Review the list of acceptable documents required to complete these forms and be sure to bring these documents with you to Drake. You must bring original documents as proof of identification and eligibility to work (a birth certificate, social security card, etc.); photocopies or faxes are not acceptable. No student may begin work without completing these forms.  Additionally, you will be required to have banking information available, as new employees are required to do direct deposit into a checking or savings account.

How many hours can I expect to work and where and when do I get paid? Positions on campus normally require 8 to 12 hours of work per week and will pay hourly wages of $7.25 (and up). Drake paychecks are issued on the 12th of each month for the previous month's work.  New employees are required to use direct deposit to any US financial institution.  The amount of your earnings is not automatically credited to your tuition account.
