- Determine the need for a Student Employee and examine budget to ensure that funding is available for wages.
- If this is a new job, complete the Job Description and Classification Form and forward to Human Resources to determine the wage for the job.
- If desired, advertise with the Professional & Career Development Services through website
▪ On-Campus Part-time Job that does not have a job number or wage ▪ On-Campus Part-time Job that does have a job number or wage - Interview the student applicants.
- Hire the student and discuss work schedule. Additionally, start personnel file for the student within the office. Information included should be work schedule, start date of student, contact information, etc.
- Confirm with student whether s/he has previously been employed by Drake as a student employee. If not, remind student to come to HR Office to complete the tax and employment paperwork.
- Complete Employment Status Change Form, or spreadsheet version, for student employment information and forward to Human Resources. This form will need to be completed at the beginning of fall semester and end of spring semester.
- Receive position number from HR and put on student's timecard. This number will be indicated on the line where it says "Type of Work".
- Regularly provide feedback to the student regarding his/her work performance. At the one year anniversary date, complete the performance review and provide copy to student, maintain copy in personnel file, and forward a copy to Human Resources. This will serve as documentation for the processing of the wage change.
- Complete the Employment Status Change Form, or spreadsheet version, to report employment terminations.
