Professor of Economics
Professor Boal holds a B.A. in Mathematics-Economics from Wesleyan University and a Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University. He has taught at Stanford, Ohio State University, Iowa State University, and since 1995 at Drake University. In recent years he has taught undergraduate courses in microeconomic theory, regulation and antitrust, labor economics, and econometrics. His non-academic experience includes two years at Pacific Bell Corporation and two years at the World Bank.
Professor Boal’s research area is labor economics, focusing on coal mining in the early twentieth century (see wmboal.com/research).
A native of the East Coast, he loves Des Moines, but has given up ever being able to pronounce “Keokuk.” In his spare time, he sings bass in the Drake University/Community Chorus.
