BA in Economics= just economicsThis program is ideal for students planning careers in law, international relations, government, or public policy. Requirements are limited, so students can easily add a second major in international relations, politics, philosophy, etc. Who may declare this program: Students who declare this program as their primary major should enroll in the CBPA. But this program is also available as a second major to students in any college except the CBPA. So, for example, a student majoring in public relations or education could add this program as a second major. |
BSBA in Economics= economics + businessThis program is ideal for students planning careers in law or business. Students take the business core curriculum in addition to their economics courses. Who may declare this program: This program is open only to students in the CBPA. This program can be a primary major or a second major. |
BA in Quantitative Economics= economics + mathematicsThis program, offered in cooperation with the Department of Mathematics, is ideal for students planning graduate study in economics (PhD or MA programs). The program also prepares students well for research-oriented jobs in government or consulting. Who may declare this program: This program is open to students in Arts and Sciences as well as the College of Business and Public Administration (CBPA) as a primary major. Such students choose a major advisor in either the Department of Mathematics or the CBPA, depending on their college of enrollment. This program is also open to students in any college except the CBPA as a second major. So, for example, a student majoring in physics or pharmacy could add this program as a second major. |

** Students in the CBPA enroll in ECON 199. Students in the College of Arts and Sciences enroll in MATH 195.
The minor in economics requires MATH 28 (or 50), ECON 1, ECON 2, and either ECON 173 or ECON 174, plus three additional ECON courses numbered 100 or above. It is recommended that candidates for the minor complete both ECON 173 and ECON 174. The second course then counts toward the three additional 100-level courses.
Who may declare this program: The minor is open to all Drake undergraduates (motion passed by CBPA Faculty 11/18/05).
