Currency Wars: Panel to discuss implications of economic growth on global currency

The Principal Financial Group Center for Global Citizenship at Drake University will present “Currency Wars? The Dollar, the Euro, and the Yuan,” a panel discussion on Wednesday, March 26 at 7 p.m. in Sussman Theater, 2875 University Ave.

The panelists, who are highly regarded global investors and finance experts, will share insights on the Federal Reserve’s impact on the dollar and other potential implications of economic growth on global currency. Attendees can expect to learn about Federal Reserve policies, the consequences of trade imbalances, and the various economic and political factors affecting the Dollar, Yuan, Euro, and other global currencies.

The panelists are:

Jim McCaughan, chief executive officer of Principal Global Investors.
McCaughan also serves as president of global asset management for the Principal Financial Group. Jim graduated with a degree in mathematics from the University of Cambridge (Pembroke College) and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries. His career began in 1974 as an actuary with Lane Clark & Peacock, London. Currently, Jim oversees investment activities across asset classes and market regions, with primary responsibility for the strategic development of Principal’s asset management business globally.

Bob Baur, chief global economist for Principal Global Investors.
Baur has a Ph.D. in economics and a B.S. in mathematics from Iowa State. He completed post-doctoral study in finance and economics at the University of Minnesota. He has been invited to speak around the world, and is frequently quoted by the financial news media, and also appears regularly on CNBC, Fox Business, and Bloomberg Television.

Inchul Suh, department chair and associate professor of finance in Drake’s College of Business and Public Administration.
Suh received his B.A. in finance from Korea University, M.B.A. from Indiana University at Bloomington, and Ph.D. in finance from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He joined Drake in 2002 and teaches international finance, seminars in finance, and corporate finance courses. His main research areas are corporate investment, governance, and financial distress.
